CEREC CrownsIn the past, repairing your tooth with a dental crown was a process which involved several visits with your dentist, a dental laboratory, and long wait times. However, CEREC technology gives your dentist the chance to design, create, and customize your crown right in their office, skipping the laboratory step completely and helping you save time, effort, and money. Find out more about CEREC and how it can help you with Dr. Jason Ako at Kahala Cosmetic and Family Dentistry in Honolulu, HI.

What is CEREC?
CEREC, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, cuts out the middleman and allows you to complete the crowning process without the need for any temporary restorations or wait times, eliminating the laboratory step completely. CEREC uses high-quality materials during the crown creation process and provides the same level of restoration as traditional crowns. CEREC itself is made up of three main parts: a specialized wand for taking 3D impressions of the mouth, CAD/CAM software, and the CEREC machine itself which crafts the crown itself, carving it out of a block of ceramic or porcelain.

How can CEREC benefit me?
CEREC lets you go through the crowning process in just a few hours versus several weeks with traditional crowns. Since your dentist creates CEREC in their office, there is no need for a dental laboratory or the wait times and fees associated with them. Additionally, CEREC saves you the normal two-week wait required by the lab to complete your crown. This also eliminates the need for a second appointment with your dentist. CEREC saves you time, money, and effort and helps you undergo your crowning procedure with ease.

CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns in Honolulu, HI
Before placing your crown, your dentist will prepare your tooth to fit perfectly inside your new restoration. This helps with fit and bonding the crown to your tooth. Then, your dentist will take a 3D image of your mouth to send to CEREC’s CAD/CAM software. The software allows your dentist to design the crown specifically for your smile, then further adjust it for a perfect fit. You will wait about an hour for the CEREC machine to create the physical crown, then your dentist will place it permanently onto your tooth.
